  • Research Scientist – EO Remote Sensing

    Work in small teams with SSI Scientists and Engineers on a variety of projects in sensor and environment modeling and data analysis algorithm development. Typical projects include development of physical models of complex interactions of light and matter, and sensor response, development of advance algorithms for enhancement and exploitation of signals in clutter. Extraction of information from large geospatial/spectral datasets. Development of processing architectures and prototyping software for use within our in-house sensors and imagers. The ideal candidate for this position is comfortable working independently and in small groups to develop ideas that meet customer needs, solicit funding, write proposals, and carry through phases of development from concept to prototype.

    Desired Qualifications:

    • An MS or PhD degree in the physical sciences (physics, atmospheric sciences, image science, optics, etc.) or engineering (electrical, aerospace, mechanical, etc.).
    • Experience should include the development of fundamental physical models, data analysis algorithms, and/or sensor concepts involving remote sensing for aerospace, industrial, or medical applications.
    • Experience programming with C/C++, Python and/or Fortran, shell scripting, Unix command line tools.
    • US citizenship and ability to obtain a US Government Security Clearance are required.

    Research Engineer: Computational Aerospace Applications

    The successful candidate will work within a small team of SSI scientists and engineers on a variety of projects in physical modeling and simulation, data analysis, and algorithm development. Typical projects include leveraging high-performance computing capabilities to simulate real events and comparison with available measured data or development and integration of key physical models within parallel software. The ideal candidate for this position is comfortable working independently and in small groups to conduct original research, developing ideas that meet customer needs, assisting in solicitation of funding, and carrying through phases of research and development from concept through prototype.

    Desired Qualifications:

    • A B.S. or M.S. degree in engineering (aerospace, electrical, chemical) or the physical sciences (physics, chemistry, atmospheric sciences).
    • Demonstrated ability in computational fluid dynamics, development and application of continuum and rarefied simulation models, and/or integration of chemistry and physical models within large-scale simulation.
    • Experience should include a deep understanding of fundamental physical models, data analysis algorithms, and/or sensor concepts involving remote sensing for aerospace, industrial, or medical applications.
    • Experience in Python, shell scripting, MATLAB, and/or Unix command line tools.
    • US citizenship and ability to obtain a US Government Security Clearance are required.

    Additional Factors Considered:

    • A Ph.D. or relevant work experience are highly desirable.

    Research Scientist – Scientific Computation

    Work with SSI scientists and engineers on a variety of projects in physical modeling, data analysis, and algorithm development. Typical projects develop physical models of chemical reactions, multi-phase flows, and molecular spectra, including aspects of numerical algorithms, molecular dynamics, quantum chemistry, fluid dynamics, spectroscopy, radiation transport, and physics. End products are realistic prediction of events and phenomenology, including spatial, spectral and temporal signatures. The ideal candidate for this position is comfortable working independently and in small groups to develop ideas that meet customer needs, solicit funding, write proposals, and carry through phases of scientific software development from initial physical equations of phenomenology to demonstration pseudo-code to fully documented and tested large scale scientific software.

    Desired Qualifications:

    • An MS or PhD degree in the physical sciences (physics, chemistry) or engineering (aerospace, chemical, etc.).
    • Experience should include the development of fundamental physical models, numerical methods, and data analysis algorithms.
    • Proficiency in current methods of mathematical modeling of physical phenomena.

    Information System Security Manager (ISSM)

    Spectral Sciences, Inc. is seeking an Information System Security Manager (ISSM) with expertise in Windows, Unix, and Linux operating systems, and the National Industrial Security Program. This person will play an integral role in the day-to-day operations of our office.

    Information System Security Manager Duties (including but not limited to):

    • In concert with the FSO and ISSO’s, maintain an IS Security Program
    • Implement and enforce the IS Security Policy
    • Review bulletins and advisories that impact the security posture of information systems under your purview
    • Coordinate periodic vulnerability testing using approved tools to evaluate the security posture of the information systems
    • Coordinate with IT Department to make purchase recommendations, analyze requirements, suggest improvements, and contribute to planning of IS solutions
    • Ensure all IS users receive the necessary Information Assurance and Security Training
    • Maintain (keep current) all information system certification/accreditation documentation per mandated policies
    • Coordinate all information systems audits and reviews
    • Update and maintain the POA/M as required
    • Review system(s) security posture and audit logs as required by NISPOM to ensure compliance with a RMF documentation package
    • Coordinate responses to security incidents, and investigate and report security violations and incidents as appropriate, coordinating with the Facility Security Officer
    • Develop and implement change management policy and procedures for authorizing use of hardware/software on an information system

    Requirements:

    • Active DoD FINAL SECRET or higher clearance, as well as the ability to hold and maintain specific security clearances
    • This is a hands-on position. Technical knowledge of Windows and Linux systems administration, as well as networking and storage systems necessary to translate compliance documentation into technical actions, is required
    • Experience in working in a secure environment
    • In-depth knowledge and experience (at least 5 years) of systems functions, security policies, technical security safeguards, and operational security measures
    • Familiarity and understating of documentation and tools such as: NISPOM, DOD 8500 Series, NIST Special Publications (800-171, 800-53, 800-37, etc.); DISA STIGs
    • Solid understanding of current best practices for Information Assurance and System/Network Security
    • Excellent communication skills: written, presentation, and spoken
    • Collaborative and educational approach to system users
    • Excellent troubleshooting skills
    • Excellent time-management and organization
    • Ability to handle multiple tasks and prioritize based on urgency
