Research Engineer: Computational Aerospace Applications

The successful candidate will work on a variety of projects in modeling and simulation, data analysis, and algorithm development. Typical projects include leveraging high performance computing capabilities to simulate real flow dynamics events and comparison with available measured data, and development and integration of key physical models within parallel software.

Requirements:

  • A B.S. or M.S. degree in engineering (aerospace, electrical, chemical) or applied physical sciences (physics, chemistry, atmospheric sciences, optics).
  • Demonstrated ability in computational fluid dynamics, development and application of continuum and rarefied simulation models, and/or integration of chemistry and physical models within large-scale simulations.
  • Experience in Python, shell scripting, MATLAB, and/or Unix command line tools.
  • US citizenship and ability to obtain a US Government Security Clearance.

Additional Factors Considered:

  • A Ph.D. or Relevant work experience.
  • Proficiency in current methods of mathematical modeling of physical phenomena.
  • Proficiency in high performance computing and parallel debugging.
  • Outstanding written, oral, and interpersonal communications skills.

Research Scientist

The successful candidate will work with SSI Scientists on a variety of projects in modeling, data analysis and algorithm development.  The ideal candidate for this position is comfortable working independently and in small groups to develop ideas that meet customer needs, solicit funding, write proposals, and carry through phases of development from concept to prototype.

Requirements:

  • An MS or PhD degree in the physical sciences (physics, chemistry, atmospheric sciences, optics, etc.) or engineering (electrical, aerospace, chemical, mechanical, etc.).
  • Experience should include the development of fundamental physical models, data analysis algorithms, and/or sensor concepts involving remote sensing for aerospace, industrial, or medical applications.
  • US citizenship and ability to obtain a US Government Security Clearance.

Additional Factors Considered:

  • Post-degree work experience.
  • Post-Doctoral work is desirable and counts towards work experience.
  • Proficiency in current methods of mathematical modeling of physical phenomena.
  • Experience in the development of scientific and engineering software.

Research Engineer

Requirements:

  • A BS/MS degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent.
  • Hands-on experience with scientific measurement hardware, signal processing, and software development.
  • Familiarity with data analysis and reduction techniques, numerical algorithms, and control systems.
  • US citizenship and ability to obtain a US Government Security Clearance.

 Additional Factors Considered:

  • Prior work experience is desirable.
  • Proficiency in current methods of mathematical modeling of physical phenomena.
  • Familiarity with methods of data science, big data analysis and deep learning.
  • General understanding of chemistry, molecular spectroscopy, radiation transfer phenomena, and/or gas dynamics.
