Job Title: R&D Scientist / Engineer
Spectral Sciences, Inc., an employee-owned company dedicated to innovation and excellence in basic and applied research for 25 years, seeks highly motivated and talented individuals with a strong background in the physical sciences and ability in modern computational methods for scientific applications. Research and development areas include atmospheric radiation transport, computational physics, chemistry and biology, remote sensing, spatial/spectral sensor development, 3-D/spectral scene modeling, and UV through IR optical signatures analysis.
Candidates for two positions are currently being sought:
- Position 1: SSI is seeking a professional in science or engineering with demonstrated ability in the fields of computational fluid mechanics; science of combustion, flames and chemically reacting, high speed, hypersonic, and rarefied flows; radiation transport; and development and implementation of large scale simulation models incorporating detailed chemistry and physics, including continuum and particle-based approaches. A M.S degree in engineering (aeronautical, electrical, chemical) or the physical sciences (physics, chemistry, atmospheric sciences, optics) plus 5 years work experience is required. A PhD and post-doctoral experience are highly desireable. Programming in C/C++ and/or Fortran. The ideal candidate is comfortable working independently and in small groups to develop and promote ideas that meet customer needs and to carry through phases of development from concept to prototype. US citizenship is required. Must be able to obtain a US Security Clearance.
- Position 2: M.S. degree in the physical sciences or engineering, plus a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience is required. A Ph.D. degree is highly desirable. Experience in the development of fundamental physical models, data analysis algorithms and/or sensor concepts involving atmospheric phenomenology and remote sensing. Proficiency in current methods of mathematical modeling of physical phenomena are essential. Ability to code in languages like C/C++ or Structured FORTRAN, and implement parallel libraries like MPI is advantageous.
The ideal candidate for either position is comfortable working independently and in small groups to develop ideas that meet customer needs, assist in solicitation of funding, and carry through phases of development from concept to prototype.
