Research and development areas include remote sensing, atmospheric radiative transfer, combustion science, computational solutions in chemistry, physics and fluid mechanics, molecular modeling, energy management, 3-D and spectral scene modeling, electro-optical signatures analysis, tomographic imaging and development of electro-optical instrumentation to support phenomenological studies and new measurement concepts.

Requirements:

A M.S. degree in the physical sciences (physics, chemistry, atmospheric sciences, optics, etc) or engineering (electrical, aeronautical, chemical) plus 4 years work experience is required. A Ph.D. and post-Doctoral work are desirable and count towards work experience. Experience should include the development of fundamental physical models, data analysis algorithms, and/or sensor concepts involving remote sensing, for aerospace or industrial applications. Proficiency in current methods of mathematical modeling of physical phenomena is highly valued. Experience with scientific software prototyping in higher level 4GL programming languages such as IDL, MATLAB, and/or Labview is required. Knowledge of one or more object-oriented languages, such as Fortran 90/95 or C++, and experience in creating and running code in these languages on a variety of platforms, in particular on Linux and Windows platforms, is highly desirable. Experience in Python, shell scripting, Unix command line tools, and creating and running code on parallel systems, such as a Beowulf cluster, is also highly valued.

The ideal candidate for this position is comfortable working independently and in small groups to develop ideas that meet customer needs, assisting in solicitation of funding, and carrying through phases of development from concept to prototype. Demonstrated accomplishments in team building, program management, customer relations, technical marketing, and proposal writing will be considered favorably. The candidate should exhibit outstanding written, oral and interpersonal communications skills. US citizenship and ability to obtain a US Government Security Clearance are required.
