Research Engineer – Scientific Computation

Spectral Sciences, Inc. seeks a highly motivated and talented researcher for work in the areas of physical modeling, data analysis, and algorithm development.

Job description:

Typical projects may involve developing physical models of chemical reactions, multi-phase flows, and molecular spectra, including aspects of numerical algorithms, molecular dynamics, quantum chemistry, fluid dynamics, spectroscopy, radiation transport, and physics. End products are realistic prediction of events and phenomenology, including estimates of spatial, spectral, and temporal signatures.

The ideal candidate for this position is comfortable working independently, and in small groups, to develop ideas that meet customer needs. They are highly motivated to solicit funding, write proposals and develop new ideas, and carry through phases of scientific software development from initial physical equations of phenomenology to demonstration pseudo-code to fully documented and tested large scale scientific software.

Desired Qualifications:

  • An MS or PhD degree in engineering (aerospace, electrical, chemical, mechanical), applied mathematics (data science, computer science) or the physical sciences (physics, chemistry, atmospheric sciences) or equivalent.
  • Experience should include proficiency in current methods of mathematical modeling of physical phenomena and development of fundamental physical models, numerical methods, and data analysis algorithms.
  • A track record of written, oral, and interpersonal communications skills.
  • US citizenship and ability to obtain a US Government Security Clearance are required.

Additional Factors Considered:

  • Post-degree work experience.
  • Post-Doctoral work experience is desirable and counts towards work experience.
  • Experience programming in Fortran, C/C++, MATLAB and/or Python.

Research Scientist – EO Remote Sensing and Imaging

Spectral Sciences, Inc. seeks a highly motivated and talented researcher for work in the areas of in sensor and environment modeling and data analysis algorithm development.

Job description:

Typical projects include development of physical models of complex interactions of light and matter, and sensor response, development of advance algorithms for enhancement and exploitation of signals in clutter. Extraction of information from large geospatial/spectral datasets. Development of processing architectures and prototyping software for use within our in-house sensors and imagers. End products include realistic prediction of events and phenomenology, including estimates of spatial, spectral, and temporal signatures, and enhancement, detection, classification, and/or identification of signal features in noisy, cluttered backgrounds.
